Conference Venue

The GCHSE 2014 will be held at Istanbul Technical University, Management Faculty, Macka Campus on August 5-8, 2014. Istanbul Technical University prides itself on being the third oldest university in the world.

The building of the Management Faculty is located at the Istanbul Technical University Macka Campus, and has been built as an administration office of the Maçka Artillery (Silahhane) next to it. The whole building complex has been constructed by the two members of the famous emperial architecture family, Simon and Sarkis Balyan between 1861-1862. The Maçka Artillery is a three-storey building and has been handed over to the Command of Gendarmerie at the end of Ottoman period. During the Republic era, it served, respectively, as a school of shipping, artillery, engineering and gendarmerie. In 1956, the building was given under control of the Ministry of Education, which then allocated to the Istanbul Technical University, and served as a Technical School until 1977. Since then the building has been hosting the administration offices of the Faculty of Management. The complementary building blocks containing classrooms have been built at the beginning of the 1970s. 

Location and Facilities

Campus

ITU Faculty of Management is strategically located at the heart of Istanbul. In its surroundings there is a metro station that is 15 minutes walk through one of the very popular designer-brands borough called Nişantaşı. Within a short walking distance from Beşiktaş port, there is a wide number of bus routes that take you to historical peninsula Sultan Ahmet Square in where all the museums, mosques and Grand Bazaar is located. Those buses also take you another very close area called Taksim Square which offers a wide-range of hotels, restaurants, shops and artistic and cultural centers. There is also a telpher that connects Maçka and Taşkışla campuses and Maçka campus to Taksim Square. You could see the road map to Maçka Campus below. Please see detailed location map.

Getting there: How to reach ITU Faculty of Management

By Bus:

Only one bus from Beşiktaş 30M that departs from Beşiktaş port bus station and directly takes you to ITU Macka Campus in five minutes. You could reach Beşiktaş from Taksim Square by buses 559C, 40S, 30D; Dolmuş (7-8 seater yellow midi taxis that only depart after they are full) or taxi. We advise you to buy an Istanbul card from the kiosks located in major bus stations in Beşiktaş and Taksim Square. You could use these cards in any kind of public transportation.

By Dolmuş:

There is a special transport in Istanbul called Dolmuş that departs only when it gets full. These are 7-8 seater midi taxis that take you to certain destinations. There is one in Beşiktaş port called Harbiye Dolmuş that takes you directly to ITU Macka Campus in 5 minutes and costs only 1 Euro per person (2.32 TL)

By Cable Car:

This is the only cable car in the city. After a 5-7 min. walk from Taksim Square passing by ITU Taşkışla Campus, you reach to the telpher that takes you right in front of ITU Macka Campus.

By Taxi:

You could take a taxi from everywhere in Istanbul. You just need to point them! The hotel receptions help you get them too. From Taksim Square, it takes 5 min to reach ITU Macka Campus. Between 8.00-9.30 and 17.00-19.00, the taxi takes nearly half an hour.

From the Airport:

There are two internationa airports in İstanbul. One in the European and the other on the Anatolian (Asian) side.

Atatürk International Airport:

It is located in the European side of Istanbul as ITU Macka Campus. It is nearly 35-40 km away from Taksim Square.

Havataş coach service: You could take Havataş coaches from the airport to Taksim Square. It costs only 4,32 Euros (10 TL) and off-rush hour it takes 30 min to Taksim Square. Please see TAKSIM SHUTTLE SERVICE INFORMATION

By Taxi: You could get a taxi from the airport. It costs app. 12,97 Euros (30 TL) and takes 20 minutes to Taksim Square and 30 minutes to Maçka off-rush hour time.

Sabiha Gökçen International Airport:

It is located in the Asian side of Istanbul. It is nearly 50 km away from Taksim Square.

Havataş coach service: You could take Havataş coaches from the airport to Taksim Square. It costs only 7,35 Euros (17 TL) and off-rush hour it takes 40 minutes to Taksim Square. Please see TAKSIM SHUTTLE SERVICE INFORMATION

Regular public bus service: Number E-3 public buses take you to 4th Levent Metro station. From there you could take metro to Taksim Square directly and reach there only in 5 minutes.

By Taxi: You could get a taxi from the airport. It costs app. 21,61 Euros (50 TL) and takes 30 minutes to Taksim Square and Maçka off-rush hour time.
